Today is not just another day.

It's a new opportunity.

Another chance.

A new beginning.

Embrace it

We are on the cusp of a new season, my favorite season, the season of change. School is starting, soon the leaves will change color and the temperature will drop, and there's just something inspiring in the air. Fall feels like a new beginning and I love everything about it.

Abby is about to begin her senior year, a year of firsts and lasts. These photos were a way to celebrate that occasion and the season to come. A nod to the beautiful golden colors and crisp air on the horizon. Thank you Abby for helping make my vision come to life!

Ana + Ian | Downtown Elopement

Hi friends! It has been SO long since I've updated this blog! From having a baby at the beginning of the year, to selling our house this month, 2018 has been non-stop! Updating the blog has been on the back burner, but I've kept my Instagram updated during all of my shoots this year, so be sure to follow me for real time updates @emilyrose_photography!

But enough about me! I had to come out of hiding to share these photos with you all! This month I had the pleasure of shooting Ana and Ian's downtown Birmingham elopement! There is something so romantic about a couple getting married privately, and I was so honored to be there to witness it. The morning started at the Jefferson County Courthouse, where Ana and Ian were married in a private ceremony (by the sweetest and cutest judge!), and then we met up at Caldwell Park for some portraits of the new Mr. and Mrs.! These two were so full of joy throughout the whole day and it is evident in their photos. Here are a few of my favorite moments!

The W Family | Personal Photoshoot

Happy December everyone! The past few weeks have been a flurry of mini sessions, holiday celebrations, and baby preparations for me so I haven't had a chance to blog in a while! But I didn't want to let the time get away from me without wishing you all a happy holiday season, and I thought my own personal family photos would be a fun post to wrap up this year!

This post is actually a compilation of two separate shoots. We had our original family photoshoot a few weeks ago on a very cold and blustery day, and then about a week later we had a spare afternoon and much nicer weather, so we decided to run out for just a few more photos together. This year's family photos are particularly special, because they are our last as a family of three (well, three plus a giant bump)! We are so excited to welcome our little girl in just a few weeks, but wanted to document this time with our firstborn as well. I know we will treasure these for years to come, and I hope you enjoy a few of our favorites!

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, from my family to yours! I can't wait to see what next year holds!

Katie + Bo | Fly Creek Farm

On a warm afternoon at the end of September, fifty of their closest family and friends gathered to witness the marriage of Katie and Bo.

From the first time I met Katie and Bo, I knew they were going to be one of the most laid-back couples I had ever worked with. Their wedding day was one of the most stress-free, genuine weddings I have ever been a part of. Even a flash rain storm didn't dampen (pun intended) the mood of the day!

The setting was a 127-year-old farmhouse, beautifully styled with wildflowers and vintage details. The afternoon began with an intimate and heartfelt ceremony, followed by cocktail hour on the lawn while I snuck away with the couple for photos. Then guests were seated for dinner in the orchard, and dinner was served family-style on mismatched vintage china. After dinner, toasts were shared, the cake was served, and Goat Hill String band opened the dance floor! Katie and Bo spent the rest of the evening enjoying the company of their family and friends and dancing the night away.

Katie and Bo, thank you so much for allowing me to be part of your day. It was truly my pleasure! Here are some of my favorite moments:

Baby F

This week I had the pleasure of meeting another newborn baby, when my friends Olivia and JD welcomed their precious daughter into the world. Baby F made an early appearance this week, and is 6 pounds of pure sweetness! Meeting her made me SO excited to meet my own baby girl in a few months, and I can't wait for these little girls to grow up together!

Congratulations Olivia and JD, and thank you for letting me meet and photograph your sweet girl! Here are a few of my favorites!

Baby D

This week I had the unexpected privilege to take in-hospital newborn photos for one of my dear friends and her precious new baby boy! I had been looking forward to meeting Baby D toward the end of September, but he decided to make his appearance a few weeks early, on Labor Day! His family is so excited he's finally here, and big brother is already so good with him. I loved every second with this squishy little guy - there's just nothing sweeter than a brand new baby! <3 Congratulations again on your new addition, L family! I can't wait to watch this little one grow up!

The S Family

I'm so excited to share today's session with you guys! When Joanna contacted me about doing a lifestyle family session in their home, I was SO excited! This type of session is a rare request for families, but I believe it is absolutely one of the best and most natural ways to capture families and especially children! In the comfort of their own environment, the S family had a relaxing afternoon playing, showing me their garden, reading together, playing piano together, and just having fun. I enjoyed every minute of our afternoon together, and left feeling so at ease with the whole experience. If you're considering having family photos taken, I would highly recommend an in-home lifestyle session! Here are a few of my favorites from the day!

Kate + Sheldon

Hi friends! It's been forever and a day since I blogged and I am so excited to finally catch up and show you guys what I've been up to this Summer!

Today I am sharing one of my favorite shoots so far this year... my sister and her fiancé's engagement session! Sheldon and Kate got engaged in May, while on a romantic trip to Sheldon's hometown in England, and since the moment he popped the question (ok let's be real, since they started dating over a year ago) I was planning and plotting what I would do for their engagement photos. I love working with family because I feel more free to try new things... like an engagement shoot in a coffee shop! We started to O'Henry's Coffee, and ended on a downtown bridge overlooking the sunset on Morris Avenue. I couldn't have asked for a nicer evening, better light, or more attractive subjects. :)

Kate and Sheldon, I am so thrilled for you guys and can't wait to stand by your side as you tie the knot in February! Now here are just a few of my favorites from the shoot:

Kaitlyn | 2017 Graduate

I'm so excited to finally share Miss Kaitlyn's beautiful senior portraits with you all! I met with Kaitlyn and her family in early April, on the beautiful Riverwalk in Tuscaloosa, to shoot the first half of her graduation photos. Then two weeks later, we got together again on the night of her senior prom to shoot a few more in her gorgeous prom dress, at Tuscaloosa's beautiful Bama Bed and Breakfast.  Both shoots were such fun, and Kaitlyn looked absolutely stunning! I always love working with her and her family, and I always enjoy exploring new corners of Tuscaloosa - there is so much to see there! Thank you again for working with me, Kaitlyn, and congratulations on your graduation!!

Here are some of my favorites:

Peter | 2017 Graduate

Sometimes the best photoshoots are the most spontaneous! From planning this shoot two days before, to changing locations at the very last minute, to racing against the looming clouds overhead, Peter's senior session was full of excitement. And I couldn't be happier with the result! I could honestly spend days and days shooting downtown, there is so much variety to discover, and Peter and I had such a fun time exploring every nook and cranny during our long stroll down 20th Street. Thank you for being up for anything Peter, I enjoyed every minute! :D

The F Family

This past weekend I had the privilege of doing a fun little shoot with my friend Ashley and her adorable boys! :) That special mother and son bond is something very near and dear to me, so I loved capturing that through Ashley and her boys. It was a cold and windy evening, but they were such troopers and had plenty of fun running around Railroad Park at sunset. I am so pleased and honored to have captured these precious memories for this sweet little family. Here are a few of my favorites!

Jessica + Stephen | J&D Farms

It was a mildly chilly day in mid-November. Florals of deep burgundy and rich green perfectly complimented the late Fall foliage on the grounds of J&D Farms. Pops of gold throughout the decor matched the golden light that was pouring over the tree line. The rich hues hinted at the Winter that was just around the corner, and a red velvet cake topped with florals and bright red berries was just the right touch for this rustic yet elegant scene.

I couldn't be more thankful for the amazing team of vendors that helped make this day possible. Each provided a vital piece of the puzzle and the end result is something I am so proud to have been a part of.

Whether you're planning a wedding or just planning how you will spend this New Year, I hope this shoot inspires you to have big dreams, run towards them full force, and create something beautiful. Happy New Year friends!

Behind The Scenes of 2016

Guys! I can't believe its time to start another year! New Year is one of my favorite times ever - it's so inspiring, and I always feel this energized buzz to do a million things at once! Looking back on where I was this time last year, I could not be more thankful for the strides I and my business have taken this year. I had the privilege to shoot and second-shoot several weddings, put together a styled shoot with an amazing vendor team, take classes, participate in challenges, and shoot more than any other year in my business. So thank you friends, family, mentors, and of course clients for making it possible!

I love looking back at the end of the year on all I was able to be a part of, so today I thought I would share some of my favorite behind-the-scenes captures from this year. There were so many more shoots this year that aren't featured here (as I don't always have another photographer along to be my paparazzi Haha!), but I hope you enjoy these little glimpses! (Thank you to all of my friends and assistants for these - Kirk, Ashlyn, Tiffany, and Hannah!)

Some of you may not know that I started the wedding season with cotton candy pink hair! :D

Alan + Hannah | Heritage House

Happy last days of 2016 friends! As the year draws to a close, I have had the chance to reflect back on some of my favorite moments (I will be posting a bit more on that this weekend!), and I am so excited to finally share one of my favorite weddings of the year!

Hannah and Alan's day was the picture perfect Fall wedding. I was absolutely in love with it all, from the vibrant warm colors, to the charming Heritage House venue, to the small intimate gathering of loved ones. I loved getting to know their family and friends, singing along as they danced the night away, and cheering for them as they ran through a crowd of sparklers and onto their new life as husband and wife. Hannah and Alan, thank you for allowing me to be a part of it all! Wishing you all the best in this New Year and for many years to come! Cheers!

The G Family

Today I'm sharing another favorite Fall mini session with the adorable G family. I was so excited to take their first Christmas photos as a family of three! The trees at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens were in full, incredible color and made a beautiful backdrop - they went especially nicely with this family that is two-thirds redheads! :D Here are some of my favorite moments:

The O Family

Have I ever mentioned that Fall is my favorite? ;)The breeze is crisp, the colors are vibrant, and everything glows with a beautiful golden light. My session with the O family embodied all of the beauty of Fall, as well as the sweet connection between each family member. The little ones played and had fun together, then big sister jumped in and spent some time being silly with them, and then we got the whole family together for a few fun photos - and mom and dad even caught a moment alone! It was a joy getting to know this adorable family! Here are some of my favorite moments:

Hi guys! I know it's been way too long since I've blogged! It's been a crazy (in a good way!) couple of months over here at Emily Rose Photography, which means I have gotten behind on blogging. But it also means I have so much beauty to share with you all in the coming weeks! :D

Fall brought in mini session season which is always so much fun! One of my first minis (when it was still quite hot!) was with my dear friend Hosanna. Not only is she the cutest thing on the planet, she is also just the sweetest girl you will ever meet. Her bubbly personality shines through these photos, and I had so much fun hanging out with her during this shoot. Here are some of my favorites! <3

Andrew + Melissa

Last year I had the pleasure of taking family photos for Melissa and Andrew and their two precious babies. But this year Melissa reached out to me about doing something special with just the two of them. So we planned something that could combine a sweetheart session and a romantic date in the city all in one. Andrew wore his suit and Melissa her fancy heels, and we headed to the Birmingham Museum of Art. I love adventurous clients who are willing to try new things, and Melissa and Andrew are always willing to go with the flow, and laugh all the way through. Melissa and Andrew, I hope you enjoyed our evening as much as I did! Here are some of my favorites!

In her grandparents' old house, wearing her grandmother's dress, Rebecca looked like a vintage beauty for her styled shoot in June. My friend and fellow photographer, Tiffany, and I had such a great time working together to capture the hauntingly beautiful house and barn, and of course our subject and friend, Rebecca. Thank you girls for the adventure! Here are some of my favorites from the shoot.
