Lea + Kirk | Aldridge Gardens

Kirk and I met a few years ago when we were both in the early days of our wedding photography businesses. He hired me as his second shooter that year, and I was able to work with him several times. From our first meeting he was so chill and down-to-earth, and extremely supportive and helpful of my endeavors. So when Kirk emailed me early this year to tell me not only that he was engaged, but that he wanted me to photograph his wedding, I couldn’t have been more thrilled!

Kirk and Lea chose a Fall wedding (my absolute favorite), and their day could not have been more perfect. Bright sunshine and a cool breeze greeted me that morning as I arrived at the house to photograph the girls getting ready. Then we headed to the beautifully colorful Aldridge Gardens and began portraits with the bridesmaids and groomsmen.

When it was time for the ceremony Lea’s adorable niece stole the show walking in as the flower girl, before Lea came down the aisle with tears all around. Lea’s father preformed a heartfelt ceremony, and just like that they were husband and wife!

After a few more bridal party and family portraits, I snuck away with Lea and Kirk for some bride and groom photos right at sunset. We explored the beautiful gardens a little more, and had fun playing with sparklers before heading to their reception.

After that it was party time! La Paz and Forest Bear Bakery provided delicious food and desserts, and everyone danced the night away. We ended the beautiful evening with a picture perfect sparkler exit. It was an absolutely perfect day!

Congratulations again Kirk and Lea! Your wedding couldn’t have been better! Now, please enjoy some of my favorite moments from the day!

Ana + Ian | Downtown Elopement

Hi friends! It has been SO long since I've updated this blog! From having a baby at the beginning of the year, to selling our house this month, 2018 has been non-stop! Updating the blog has been on the back burner, but I've kept my Instagram updated during all of my shoots this year, so be sure to follow me for real time updates @emilyrose_photography!

But enough about me! I had to come out of hiding to share these photos with you all! This month I had the pleasure of shooting Ana and Ian's downtown Birmingham elopement! There is something so romantic about a couple getting married privately, and I was so honored to be there to witness it. The morning started at the Jefferson County Courthouse, where Ana and Ian were married in a private ceremony (by the sweetest and cutest judge!), and then we met up at Caldwell Park for some portraits of the new Mr. and Mrs.! These two were so full of joy throughout the whole day and it is evident in their photos. Here are a few of my favorite moments!

Katie + Bo | Fly Creek Farm

On a warm afternoon at the end of September, fifty of their closest family and friends gathered to witness the marriage of Katie and Bo.

From the first time I met Katie and Bo, I knew they were going to be one of the most laid-back couples I had ever worked with. Their wedding day was one of the most stress-free, genuine weddings I have ever been a part of. Even a flash rain storm didn't dampen (pun intended) the mood of the day!

The setting was a 127-year-old farmhouse, beautifully styled with wildflowers and vintage details. The afternoon began with an intimate and heartfelt ceremony, followed by cocktail hour on the lawn while I snuck away with the couple for photos. Then guests were seated for dinner in the orchard, and dinner was served family-style on mismatched vintage china. After dinner, toasts were shared, the cake was served, and Goat Hill String band opened the dance floor! Katie and Bo spent the rest of the evening enjoying the company of their family and friends and dancing the night away.

Katie and Bo, thank you so much for allowing me to be part of your day. It was truly my pleasure! Here are some of my favorite moments:

Venue and Florals: Fly Creek Farm

Alan + Hannah | Heritage House

Happy last days of 2016 friends! As the year draws to a close, I have had the chance to reflect back on some of my favorite moments (I will be posting a bit more on that this weekend!), and I am so excited to finally share one of my favorite weddings of the year!

Hannah and Alan's day was the picture perfect Fall wedding. I was absolutely in love with it all, from the vibrant warm colors, to the charming Heritage House venue, to the small intimate gathering of loved ones. I loved getting to know their family and friends, singing along as they danced the night away, and cheering for them as they ran through a crowd of sparklers and onto their new life as husband and wife. Hannah and Alan, thank you for allowing me to be a part of it all! Wishing you all the best in this New Year and for many years to come! Cheers!

Josh + Katharine | Douglas Manor

I arrived on the warm and cloudy June afternoon, and met Katharine and her bridesmaids busily getting ready in the girls' room, and the boys kicking back and enjoying conversation in the boys' room. I ran off to photograph some details, then came back to shoot Katharine getting into her dress, with help from her mom. The love and excitement was noticeable from everyone, from the giddy conversations in the bride's room, to Katharine's first-look with her dad, to Josh and Katharine's private prayer before the ceremony.

As soon as everyone was ready, we ran off for some group photos on the beautiful grounds at Douglas Manor. The groomsmen were such a fun and hilarious group to work with, and the bridesmaids were so sweet and sentimental during their photo time. After group photos, guests began arriving and soon the ceremony began. It was beautiful and heartfelt, the guests laughed and cried, and then Josh and Katharine were pronounced husband and wife!

After a few more bridal party photos, I snuck away with the couple for some romantic photos in a private corner of the woods. They enjoyed their first quiet moments together as husband and wife, and we got some beautiful photos in the process. Finally it was time to party! Guests danced, enjoyed tacos and pie (how epic is that?!), and finally sent Katharine and Josh away with a sparkler exit!

Josh and Katharine, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your day - It was an honor celebrating with you. I wish you all the best, friends! <3

Josh + Sara | Rose Marry Farms

From the moment I arrived at Rose Marry Farms on the morning of May 14th, I knew this was going to be one of the most relaxed weddings I had ever been a part of. Sara and Josh are some of the most easy going people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Even when various things were forgotten or didn't go as planned, Sara never stopped smiling, didn't sweat the small stuff, and you never would have guessed that everything wasn't absolutely perfect. Talk about a dream!

The venue was beautifully rustic, and decorated with perfect reflections of Sara and Josh's personalities. The weather was a little cold, but we were blessed with sunny skies and a refreshing breeze during photos. The ceremony was sincere, the reception was laid back, and everyone was full of joy celebrating this sweet love story.

The girls started the day getting ready in the beautiful bridal room on the property of Rose Marry Farms, while I snuck away to shoot some details. I then spent some time with the guys and then the girls, shooting portraits before the ceremony began. After the ceremony came group photos, and then they all headed into the reception for cake, barbecue, and time with friends and family. Finally, I snuck off with the couple after the reception for a few more photos with just the two of them.

Thank you, Sara and Josh, for allowing me to be a part of your wedding day. It was an honor and a privilege, and I wish you all the best in marriage and in life. Cheers friends! <3
