I’m so excited to share today’s engagement session with you all! Last weekend I met up with Madalyn and Andrew at Moss Rock Preserve in Hoover, AL. We opted to beat the heat and met early that Sunday morning, and the combination of glowy morning light and mossy caverns made this whole session feel like a magical woodland fairytale. Madalyn and Andrew were all about having fun together, and were full of natural giggles the entire time (I didn’t even have to pull out any of my bad jokes! :D) They brought their precious puppy along, and he enjoyed exploring the preserve and posing for a few photos along the way. I had so much fun hanging out with these two , and capturing their sweet love for one another. I hope you enjoy a few of my favorites from their session!
The past couple of months have been a whirlwind of projects that I can’t wait to share, and I am finally getting caught up on blogging! One of the things I have been up to is senior shoots! With Spring and graduation season right around the corner, we have been shooting senior photos left and right! I always have a blast on senior shoots, and this one was no exception.
Last weekend I met with Hannah on a cloudy afternoon in downtown Birmingham. We began our shoot at Railroad Park, and then changed outfits and made our way to Morris Avenue. These are two of my favorite spots to shoot, and every time I’m there with each new client we find and create something unique! Hannah was up for anything, from dancing and twirling in the park, to running across the street for that super fierce final shot! I had so much fun exploring the city with her and capturing her beautiful spirit. Here are some of my very favorites!
This past weekend I jumped on the road with my five closest friends and headed out for a girls’ getaway in beautiful Charleston, South Carolina. This was my first time in the city, and I absolutely fell in love! The colorful architecture, rich history, delicious food, and everything in between makes this city a must-see. We didn’t even scratch the surface of all there is to do there! But even so, my girl friends and I had such a wonderful time exploring, eating, laughing, and of course making time for a little downtown photoshoot! I love these ladies and loved getting to take pretty pictures of them in such a beautiful place. Here are a few of my favorites!
Last night I had the pleasure of working with this beauty queen on her senior photos! I’ve had the opportunity to photograph Reagan a few times now, and she is always a natural in front of my camera, so I was so thrilled when she asked me to take her senior photos!
We were hoping to catch the last of the Fall colors and, WOW, did we luck out! The trees at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens were still absolutely beautiful and vibrant, and the LIGHT was incredible! I couldn’t have asked for better!
Thanks for a wonderful time Reagan! Best of luck with the rest of senior year!
Now enjoy a few of my favorites!
Ashlyn and Daniel’s wedding was so special to me for a number of reasons. Both Ashlyn and Daniel have been friends of mine since we were small children. We grew up together, and I watched them grow from friends to sweethearts over the years. I was absolutely thrilled for them and their families when they announced their engagement. Ashlyn also worked with me on several photography projects and even second shot a few weddings with me, so when she asked me to photograph her wedding the day after she got engaged, I was so honored! I absolutely love clients who are friends! Another thing that was special about their day is that Ashlyn and Daniel got married on my own wedding anniversary. It was such a nostalgic day thinking back to my own wedding while watching my dear friends begin their marriage - and now we’re anniversary twins! :)
It was a cold but sunny Saturday morning when everyone arrived at the beautiful Christ Church Branch Cove and began the preparations. After shooting all of the details, I began individual portraits with Ashlyn and Daniel. Then it was time for their first look! They chose a sweet first-look in the empty chapel, and enjoyed a quiet moment alone before we began bride and groom portraits.
After we spent some time alone, the bridal party joined us for a few photos all together. Everyone was a trooper in the cold weather and made my job a breeze.
As we wrapped up photos, guests arrived and were seated, and then Ashlyn and Daniel shared a heartfelt ceremony in the beautiful chapel. And just like that they became husband and wife!
Everyone made their way to the reception hall, which was beautifully decorated with vintage china, homemade pound cakes and cookies, and a coffee and tea bar with a host of toppings and decorations. Friends and family mingled with the couple and enjoyed the delicious food.
During the reception, Ashlyn and Daniel snuck away with me for some final photos at sunset. The light couldn’t have been more beautiful, and I think these are my favorite photos from the day!
The sun sank down, the couple said their goodbyes, and the guests lined the sidewalk to send them off in a shower of ribbons and jingle bells! Their day was magical and a perfect reflection of them, and I was so honored to be a part of it all. Congratulations again Ashlyn and Daniel!
I hope you enjoy these favorites from your special day!
Last week I had the pleasure of working with this sweet and extremely photogenic family! I have loved shooting with Jessica and Stephen in the past, and this time their sweet kiddos got to join in the fun! And wow! This family is so glam. Thanks for making my job so easy you guys! Here are some of my favorites!
Kirk and I met a few years ago when we were both in the early days of our wedding photography businesses. He hired me as his second shooter that year, and I was able to work with him several times. From our first meeting he was so chill and down-to-earth, and extremely supportive and helpful of my endeavors. So when Kirk emailed me early this year to tell me not only that he was engaged, but that he wanted me to photograph his wedding, I couldn’t have been more thrilled!
Kirk and Lea chose a Fall wedding (my absolute favorite), and their day could not have been more perfect. Bright sunshine and a cool breeze greeted me that morning as I arrived at the house to photograph the girls getting ready. Then we headed to the beautifully colorful Aldridge Gardens and began portraits with the bridesmaids and groomsmen.
When it was time for the ceremony Lea’s adorable niece stole the show walking in as the flower girl, before Lea came down the aisle with tears all around. Lea’s father preformed a heartfelt ceremony, and just like that they were husband and wife!
After a few more bridal party and family portraits, I snuck away with Lea and Kirk for some bride and groom photos right at sunset. We explored the beautiful gardens a little more, and had fun playing with sparklers before heading to their reception.
After that it was party time! La Paz and Forest Bear Bakery provided delicious food and desserts, and everyone danced the night away. We ended the beautiful evening with a picture perfect sparkler exit. It was an absolutely perfect day!
Congratulations again Kirk and Lea! Your wedding couldn’t have been better! Now, please enjoy some of my favorite moments from the day!
Happy Halloween! I have been so excited to share this collaborative styled shoot with you all, and today is the perfect day. This shoot was full of dark and slightly spooky vibes, while also being elegant and beautiful. When Mary asked me to join in on this shoot I jumped at the chance, and I am SO glad I was able to be a part of it! Here are the amazing people who brought it all to life:
Venue: Aldridge Gardens
Styling: Mary Fehr
Florals: RD Designs
Desserts: Lette Macarons
Makeup: Rawwbeauty Studio
Hair: Hannah Holsomback
And now I hope you enjoy some of my favorite photos from the shoot!
If you’ve known me for any length of time, you know that Fall is my FAVORITE! So likewise, Fall sessions are my favorite sessions!
The W family (who just happen to be some of my amazing in-laws!) met me on a breezy Fall afternoon at Moss Rock Preserve. The beautiful rocks hidden in the colorful woods were the perfect backdrop for this fun and laid back family session.
I had a blast with these guys just hanging out and watching them interact. Their love for each other is apparent as soon as you meet them, and it translates so effortlessly in their photos! Here are just a few of my favorites!
Today is not just another day.
It's a new opportunity.
A new beginning.
We are on the cusp of a new season, my favorite season, the season of change. School is starting, soon the leaves will change color and the temperature will drop, and there's just something inspiring in the air. Fall feels like a new beginning and I love everything about it.
Abby is about to begin her senior year, a year of firsts and lasts. These photos were a way to celebrate that occasion and the season to come. A nod to the beautiful golden colors and crisp air on the horizon. Thank you Abby for helping make my vision come to life!
Hi friends! It has been SO long since I've updated this blog! From having a baby at the beginning of the year, to selling our house this month, 2018 has been non-stop! Updating the blog has been on the back burner, but I've kept my Instagram updated during all of my shoots this year, so be sure to follow me for real time updates @emilyrose_photography!
But enough about me! I had to come out of hiding to share these photos with you all! This month I had the pleasure of shooting Ana and Ian's downtown Birmingham elopement! There is something so romantic about a couple getting married privately, and I was so honored to be there to witness it. The morning started at the Jefferson County Courthouse, where Ana and Ian were married in a private ceremony (by the sweetest and cutest judge!), and then we met up at Caldwell Park for some portraits of the new Mr. and Mrs.! These two were so full of joy throughout the whole day and it is evident in their photos. Here are a few of my favorite moments!
Happy December everyone! The past few weeks have been a flurry of mini sessions, holiday celebrations, and baby preparations for me so I haven't had a chance to blog in a while! But I didn't want to let the time get away from me without wishing you all a happy holiday season, and I thought my own personal family photos would be a fun post to wrap up this year!
This post is actually a compilation of two separate shoots. We had our original family photoshoot a few weeks ago on a very cold and blustery day, and then about a week later we had a spare afternoon and much nicer weather, so we decided to run out for just a few more photos together. This year's family photos are particularly special, because they are our last as a family of three (well, three plus a giant bump)! We are so excited to welcome our little girl in just a few weeks, but wanted to document this time with our firstborn as well. I know we will treasure these for years to come, and I hope you enjoy a few of our favorites!
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, from my family to yours! I can't wait to see what next year holds!
On a warm afternoon at the end of September, fifty of their closest family and friends gathered to witness the marriage of Katie and Bo.
From the first time I met Katie and Bo, I knew they were going to be one of the most laid-back couples I had ever worked with. Their wedding day was one of the most stress-free, genuine weddings I have ever been a part of. Even a flash rain storm didn't dampen (pun intended) the mood of the day!
The setting was a 127-year-old farmhouse, beautifully styled with wildflowers and vintage details. The afternoon began with an intimate and heartfelt ceremony, followed by cocktail hour on the lawn while I snuck away with the couple for photos. Then guests were seated for dinner in the orchard, and dinner was served family-style on mismatched vintage china. After dinner, toasts were shared, the cake was served, and Goat Hill String band opened the dance floor! Katie and Bo spent the rest of the evening enjoying the company of their family and friends and dancing the night away.
Katie and Bo, thank you so much for allowing me to be part of your day. It was truly my pleasure! Here are some of my favorite moments:
This week I had the pleasure of meeting another newborn baby, when my friends Olivia and JD welcomed their precious daughter into the world. Baby F made an early appearance this week, and is 6 pounds of pure sweetness! Meeting her made me SO excited to meet my own baby girl in a few months, and I can't wait for these little girls to grow up together!
Congratulations Olivia and JD, and thank you for letting me meet and photograph your sweet girl! Here are a few of my favorites!
Hi friends! It's been forever and a day since I blogged and I am so excited to finally catch up and show you guys what I've been up to this Summer!
Today I am sharing one of my favorite shoots so far this year... my sister and her fiancé's engagement session! Sheldon and Kate got engaged in May, while on a romantic trip to Sheldon's hometown in England, and since the moment he popped the question (ok let's be real, since they started dating over a year ago) I was planning and plotting what I would do for their engagement photos. I love working with family because I feel more free to try new things... like an engagement shoot in a coffee shop! We started to O'Henry's Coffee, and ended on a downtown bridge overlooking the sunset on Morris Avenue. I couldn't have asked for a nicer evening, better light, or more attractive subjects. :)
Kate and Sheldon, I am so thrilled for you guys and can't wait to stand by your side as you tie the knot in February! Now here are just a few of my favorites from the shoot:
Sometimes the best photoshoots are the most spontaneous! From planning this shoot two days before, to changing locations at the very last minute, to racing against the looming clouds overhead, Peter's senior session was full of excitement. And I couldn't be happier with the result! I could honestly spend days and days shooting downtown, there is so much variety to discover, and Peter and I had such a fun time exploring every nook and cranny during our long stroll down 20th Street. Thank you for being up for anything Peter, I enjoyed every minute! :D
Here are a few of my favorites:
This past weekend I had the privilege of doing a fun little shoot with my friend Ashley and her adorable boys! :) That special mother and son bond is something very near and dear to me, so I loved capturing that through Ashley and her boys. It was a cold and windy evening, but they were such troopers and had plenty of fun running around Railroad Park at sunset. I am so pleased and honored to have captured these precious memories for this sweet little family. Here are a few of my favorites!
